Ch1: Focus
Focus means saying ‘no’. Jobs focuses Apple’s limited resources on a small number of projects it can execute well.
Stay focused: don’t allow feature creep. Keep things simple, which is a virtue in a world of overly complex technology.
Focus on what you are good at, delegate all else.
Ch2: One-man focus
Don’t listen to your customers. They don’t know what they want until you show it to them.
Ch3: Design
Design is function, not form. Include everyone: designers, engineers, programmers, marketers.
Respect materials.
Ch4: Elitism (HR)
Seek out the highest quality- in people, products and advertising
Ch5: Passion: putting a Ding in the universe
Ch6: Invention and innovation
Creativity is simply connecting things.
Good artists copy, great artists steal.
Ch7: Case study: iPod
Combine ideas and best technologies (even from others’) to catch up the boat if you miss it firstly.
Ch8: Total control
The secret sauce is the seamless blend of hardware, software and services, which guarantees stability, security and ease-of-use.
“The place where Apple has been standing for the last two decades is exactly where computer technology and the consumer electronics markets are converging (to digital entertainment). So it’s not like we’re having to cross the river to go somewhere else; the other side of the river is coming to us”. —Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, the only company with personality
